The role

Your role will be drive and control the development of our clients product portfolio. Within the frame work strategy, you will be tasked with identifying and specifying the products and systems that are needed to deliver on this strategy and maximise our commercial prospects. As a small company, you will be expected to be actively involved in assisting with the development of the products you have specified, sourcing of third party products that are identified as necessary for a system offer, and supporting customers in their use and application. This is an exciting and important role that is essential to the future of our client that will appeal to an individual who has a unique blend of technical skills and commercial acumen.

The role will require:

  • Innovative thinking to identify and develop products and systems functionality that deliver significant financial and operational benefits to our customers.
  • An ability to write structured and detailed product specifications and in partnership with the product development team, develop robust product development plans.
  • An ability to understand the latest technologies and how we can further develop and integrate within our product offers with the objective of offering world class equipment monitoring solutions.
  • The ability to understand electronics products and systems – inparticular data integration and communication systems.
  • The ability to understand electrical and electro-mechanical schematics and system diagrams.

The successful candidate will possess the following skills, qualities and experience:

  • Have a degree in an electronics discipline
  • Have post graduate, commercial experience in either an electronics product development or product management role
  • Commercial experience in either an electronics product development or product management role
  • A high degree of commercial acumen that enables the identification of value propositions that are compelling to specific customer types and applications
  • Be inquisitive about new technologies and concepts
  • Be highly disciplined and structured and have an uncompromising attitude to quality
  • Be capable of multi-tasking and delivering to a high standard whilst under pressure

Junior Product Developer

The Opportunity

To work in a fast paced and innovative environment in a growing department at our Headoffices in Sheffield. The role is to support the growing Own Brand mix within the company through exciting new Product Development

Main Responsibilities

  • To assist the Senior Development Manager with all aspects of the product development process across the exclusive own brand strategy. Ensuring products are being produced to the required standards and are fit for purpose
  • The development of new ranges in line with market demands and trends. Identification and evaluation of both new product opportunities and new suppliers to support the range
  • Development of bespoke Own Brand Ranges; to include liaising directly with the buying team brief at all stages, developing samples to hit key critical path deadlines including presenting the full commercial package
  • Conducting factory visits in the Far East to evaluate new /current suppliers and products
  • Negotiating best prices on current lines and new products
  • Familiarization of current competitor pricing and ranging
  • Ensuring Innovation and newness is filtered and clearly communicated into the business
  • Build relationships and clarity of communication with the Far East Office to manage and control the development and approval of all stages of samples through to Bulk Production
  • Aid with the Instruction Manual creation and verification
  • Working closely with all different departments across the business: Merchandising, Marketing, Online and Store support

Essential Skills

  • The ideal candidate must have a eye for detail and be meticulous in their work
  • Ideally possessing experience of working in product development/sourcing, and be flexible to travel to Asia as required
  • Excellent computer skills and solid working knowledge of MS office ( Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook)
  • Design software abilities (Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw). Clarity of communication and message essential
  • Knowledge of retail market, backed by strong awareness of the general market trends and fashions
  • Be able to work deadlines and to ensure the department all adhere to these
  • An excellent communicator at all levels
  • A proactive attitude to responsibilities and deadlines
  • Self starter with the ability to use own initiative, and able to negotiate with international suppliers
