Junior Product Developer

The Opportunity

To work in a fast paced and innovative environment in a growing department at our Headoffices in Sheffield. The role is to support the growing Own Brand mix within the company through exciting new Product Development

Main Responsibilities

  • To assist the Senior Development Manager with all aspects of the product development process across the exclusive own brand strategy. Ensuring products are being produced to the required standards and are fit for purpose
  • The development of new ranges in line with market demands and trends. Identification and evaluation of both new product opportunities and new suppliers to support the range
  • Development of bespoke Own Brand Ranges; to include liaising directly with the buying team brief at all stages, developing samples to hit key critical path deadlines including presenting the full commercial package
  • Conducting factory visits in the Far East to evaluate new /current suppliers and products
  • Negotiating best prices on current lines and new products
  • Familiarization of current competitor pricing and ranging
  • Ensuring Innovation and newness is filtered and clearly communicated into the business
  • Build relationships and clarity of communication with the Far East Office to manage and control the development and approval of all stages of samples through to Bulk Production
  • Aid with the Instruction Manual creation and verification
  • Working closely with all different departments across the business: Merchandising, Marketing, Online and Store support

Essential Skills

  • The ideal candidate must have a eye for detail and be meticulous in their work
  • Ideally possessing experience of working in product development/sourcing, and be flexible to travel to Asia as required
  • Excellent computer skills and solid working knowledge of MS office ( Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook)
  • Design software abilities (Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw). Clarity of communication and message essential
  • Knowledge of retail market, backed by strong awareness of the general market trends and fashions
  • Be able to work deadlines and to ensure the department all adhere to these
  • An excellent communicator at all levels
  • A proactive attitude to responsibilities and deadlines
  • Self starter with the ability to use own initiative, and able to negotiate with international suppliers
