Job purpose

  • To work as part of a team handling EL/PL accident personal injury claims.
  • You will be responsible for a caseload of fast track employers and public liability claims from portal exit to issue of proceedings, within the personal injury department at their Sheffield office.
  • To ensure the timely progression of matters through excellent client care and administrative support.
  • Working to achieve individual and team key targets and objectives and ensuring compliance with service level agreements.
  • Building working relationships with clients, the Unions, and external third parties such as medical agencies.
  • Working with colleagues to develop a strong team ethic and deliver exceptional client service to those involved in personal injury claims.
  • To ensure that allegations of fraud, fundamental dishonesty or other complex issues or Multi Track claims are referred to the fee earner or supervisor as quickly as possible.

Principal accountabilities and tasks

  • To complete and send to the EL/PL Supervisors for approval, case Evidence Action Plan (EAP) setting out the steps required to investigate and prove the clients claim to the point of Issue of Proceedings.
  • To progress clients claims proactively, in line with the EAP and targeted date for issue of County Court proceedings.
  • To update clients on their case, advise of medical appointments, answer client queries, and accurately record all correspondence
  • To advise clients on liability claims, treatment, mitigation of losses, protocol and time limits, quantum queries, and explain pre-issue claim procedures
  • Provide instructions to medical agencies, chase medical appointments, review medical reports and forward reports to clients
  • To value PI claims, utilising JSB guidelines/case law where appropriate; to effectively investigate, collate/calculate and present special damages claims (including future loss)
  • Obtain updates from clients on symptoms at the end of prognosis
  • Collate evidence and draft schedules of loss
  • Request Loss Of Earnings from employer
  • Draft Loss of Chance
  • Deal with queries from third party solicitors, insurers and defendants
  • Identify third parties and third party insurers
  • Identify witnesses to accidents
  • Forward CRU details to third party insurers
  • Conduct legal research through online research platforms, including in relation to quantum and liability
  • Ensure all information held is accurate and up to date
  • At the settlement of a claim, prepare the cost schedule to include all disbursements and negotiate costs with the responsible party

Experience    

Essential

  • Using a case management system
  • Working in a legal, insurance or professional environment
  • Good comprehension skills relating to the understanding of a range of documents related to a case
  • Excellent telephone manner and verbal communication skills
  • Able to collect and assess evidence, determine prospects, provide appropriate advice to clients, and progress the claim efficiently
  • Competent use of Microsoft Word and Excel, and general computer skills

Previous track record of experience in RTA, EL/PL litigation or both is desirable

Working hours are 35 hours either 8am – 4pm or 9am – 5pm
