Quality Engineer

Main Purpose of the Quality Engineer

Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will be part of a team dedicated to ensuring the quality of IFA’s product meets the requirements of our customers. You will be essential to the maintenance of IFA quality systems and approvals as well as being a driving force for improvement throughout the business using a variety of quality tools and techniques such as auditing, practical problem solving and statistical process control.

Key Accountabilities of the Quality Engineer

  • Assisting in the continual assessment of the Quality Management System
  • Actively aspiring to promote a culture of quality throughout the business
  • Managing and improving the Non-Conformance register, including co-ordinating improvement meetings and meeting the business KPI objectives
  • Facilitating the control and calibration of all pyrometry equipment as well as ordering consumables
  • Reviewing and approving furnace surveys/instrumentation/system accuracy tests
  • Reviewing and updating the approved supplier list and auditing external sub-contractors and suppliers as appropriate
  • Assisting in maintaining NADCAP and customer accreditations
  • Performing internal audits as well as quality spot checks of in-progress work
  • Statistical analysis of external providers delivery and quality data
  • Ordering specifications when requested and authorised
  • Monthly analysis of trends for external providers, pyrometry, PPM’s
  • Instigating and participating in team root cause analysis using quality tools such as 3C’s, 5Why’s and 8D’s
  • Assisting in issuing a monthly quality assurance performance monitoring report

Any other duties as may reasonably be required:

  • Updating monthly performance data on all notice boards for KPI’s
  • Deputising for the Quality Manager when required
  • Travelling to suppliers for auditing purposes

Skills and Experience needed for the Quality Engineer role :

Essential:

  • Experience of quality systems (ISO9001, AS9100, NADCAP)
  • Good understanding of Quality procedures
  • Questioning and analytical work attitude
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisation skills
  • Competent working knowledge of Excel, Word and other windows-based data systems
  • Excellent communication and liaison skills
  • Flexible and proactive approach

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of customer quality standards, including those of Rolls Royce etc
  • Knowledge of Pyrometry and AMS2750
  • Knowledge of mechanical / metallurgical testing and laboratory quality
  • Certificate in and/or working knowledge of auditing

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree in a materials/engineering related subject
  • Full driving license

Work hours: 37 hours per week

Monday to Thursday 8:15-16:30, Friday 8:15-16:00

Salary : £35,000

Quality Manager

Preferred Qualifications / Skills:

Essential:

Working knowledge of quality procedures
Understanding of the national and international quality standards including ISO9001 and AS9100
Effective Root Cause Analysis skills
Excellent decision making skills
Excellent organisational skills
Working knowledge of mechanical testing, NADCAP Heat treatment, NDT and Pyrometry

Desirable:

Working knowledge of Excel and Word
Understanding of material specifications

Summary of Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Quality Director with the development of the company quality system.
  • Assist Quality Director with the day to day management of the effectiveness of the quality system to AS9100 standard.
  • Day to day management of Inspection, Certification, Quality Assurance and Quality Control departments maintaining quality standards as required.
  • Performing supplier quality assurance audits for assigned suppliers.
  • Liaison with outside agencies, UKAS, customers and other third party auditors in gaining and maintaining approvals
  • Developing corrective actions to support supplier problems and failures, suggesting modifications and corrective actions by suppliers to meet customer specifications and standards.
  • Assist Quality Director in ensuring that products and services meet customer needs and expectations to fulfil company quality objectives.
  • Create and sustain a culture that is based on continuous improvement within the Quality Department.
  • Revise and update the quality management procedures.
  • Take lead responsibility for significant quality issues. Be “hands on” with the issue, develop a plan to resolve the issue, communicate the plan and progress on the plan to the organization.
  • Identify areas where product or service quality requires corrective action.
  • Lead Auditor for internal audits – create and maintain internal audit system.
  • Ensure that all departmental employees are fully aware of their responsibilities in line with the company quality and aware of customer requirements.
  • Produce monthly management report and attend Management meeting and other meetings as required e.g. NCR meeting, Health and Safety meeting
  • Deputise for Quality Director when required.
