This is a fantastic opportunity for a Fabrication Welding Inspector to join a well-established engineering organisation working with a multidisciplinary design team on the production of designs for plant and equipment. The company is involved in the full project life cycle from concept design through to manufacture and commissioning, primarily, but not exclusively for the nuclear industry

The Role

  • Inspection and verification of complex fabricated/welded components manufactured to drawing requirements and contract specifications


  • Performing inter-stage and final dimensional inspection of fabrications and support the requirements for documenting and maintaining records associated with these activities
  • Review and verify route cards, process instructions, engineering drawings and inspection procedures to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece
  • Responsible for inspection of components/products, auditing processes, assist in the development of necessary documentation and control documentation, analyse and report on materials and products
  • Inspection, verification and certification of materials
  • Calibration of measuring equipment and record keeping
  • Review documentation for Lifetime Quality Records
  • Liaise with client inspectors as and when required

Person Specification


  • Good level of general education, particularly maths
  • CWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector
  • Competent understanding of welding terminology used within the welding and fabrication industry that involves welding symbols, welding defects and their formation
  • Competent understanding of methods used for dimensional inspection of complex fabrications
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of ISO 9001 requirements
  • Basic knowledge of international standards for welding equipment and welding consumables, welding practice, quality and co-ordination in welding
  • Substantial experience of reading and understanding engineering drawings and associated documentation
  • Competent user of fabrication and welding verification and measuring equipment
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work using own initiative
  • Flexible attitude to work
  • Full UK drivers licence


  • Time served as a Fabricator or Welder
  • PCN Level 2 – Dye Penetrant Inspection
  • PCN Level 2 – Magnetic Particle Inspection
  • Experience of working in the nuclear industry
