Quality Engineer

Main Purpose of the Quality Engineer

Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will be part of a team dedicated to ensuring the quality of IFA’s product meets the requirements of our customers. You will be essential to the maintenance of IFA quality systems and approvals as well as being a driving force for improvement throughout the business using a variety of quality tools and techniques such as auditing, practical problem solving and statistical process control.

Key Accountabilities of the Quality Engineer

  • Assisting in the continual assessment of the Quality Management System
  • Actively aspiring to promote a culture of quality throughout the business
  • Managing and improving the Non-Conformance register, including co-ordinating improvement meetings and meeting the business KPI objectives
  • Facilitating the control and calibration of all pyrometry equipment as well as ordering consumables
  • Reviewing and approving furnace surveys/instrumentation/system accuracy tests
  • Reviewing and updating the approved supplier list and auditing external sub-contractors and suppliers as appropriate
  • Assisting in maintaining NADCAP and customer accreditations
  • Performing internal audits as well as quality spot checks of in-progress work
  • Statistical analysis of external providers delivery and quality data
  • Ordering specifications when requested and authorised
  • Monthly analysis of trends for external providers, pyrometry, PPM’s
  • Instigating and participating in team root cause analysis using quality tools such as 3C’s, 5Why’s and 8D’s
  • Assisting in issuing a monthly quality assurance performance monitoring report

Any other duties as may reasonably be required:

  • Updating monthly performance data on all notice boards for KPI’s
  • Deputising for the Quality Manager when required
  • Travelling to suppliers for auditing purposes

Skills and Experience needed for the Quality Engineer role :

Essential:

  • Experience of quality systems (ISO9001, AS9100, NADCAP)
  • Good understanding of Quality procedures
  • Questioning and analytical work attitude
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisation skills
  • Competent working knowledge of Excel, Word and other windows-based data systems
  • Excellent communication and liaison skills
  • Flexible and proactive approach

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of customer quality standards, including those of Rolls Royce etc
  • Knowledge of Pyrometry and AMS2750
  • Knowledge of mechanical / metallurgical testing and laboratory quality
  • Certificate in and/or working knowledge of auditing

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree in a materials/engineering related subject
  • Full driving license

Monday to Thursday 8:15-16:30, Friday 8:15-16:00

Head of Quality

Andy File Associates Limited are working as a Recruitment Agency on behalf of our client with regards this permanent position

Purpose

Key management team member, to develop, implement and manage the Quality Assurance structure and team.

Main areas of role

  • To develop, maintain and support the company’s quality management system through Quality Engineering, Quality Systems, Product & Process Quality, and Supplier Management
  • Application of standardised problem resolution tools, concern note avoidance and structured quality management of new parts and new issue levels in to production. Structured standardised problem-solving skills in a team environment, including 8D methodology
  • Robust close out facilitation of external / internal quality complaint investigations and root cause analysis, for effective containment, followed by prevention. Internal / External compliance with defined industry and business related quality standards

 

Internal Systems

  • Structured process, final and supported inspection documentation and clear standards work instructions
  • Develop build quality from within the design and processes employed
  • Audit, maintain and develop BS EN ISO9001 manual and procedures
  • Inspection equipment selection / calibration and Jig / fixture / component inspection / management control
  • Management and reporting of primary quality performance measures / indicators

 

Suppliers (supply chain):

  • Supplier Quality Assurance auditing and development program
  • Ensure that purchased material supplies meet internal and customer expectations against objective and defined quality expectations.
  • Support development of quality standard specifications for Suppliers and coordinate / track / approve application of efficient root cause analysis techniques.
  • New product / part introduction. APQP processes and the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), for new product introduction.

 

Customers (supply chain):

  • Quality parts, correct to specification shipment only. Importance of avoidance and where not avoided, containment, then prevention from re occurrence
  • Robust prevention culture and systems. Containment and approved (by customer site) prevention required by the internal customer site

 

The ideal candidate has:

  • Demonstrable experience, knowledge and understanding of manufacturing/engineering practices, including ground up implementation of ISO 9001
  • Engineering or an equivalent level of qualification in a technical discipline, to level 4 or above
  • Leadership experience in quality management within a complex engineering environment
  • Excellent capability with Kaizen/LEAN/Six Sigma problem resolution techniques
  • Excellent understanding of development techniques for parts and processes e.g. Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA) and Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA)
  • Understanding of MRP / Manufacturing Systems and QM Modules
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including a good level of presentation skills (verbal & written), but focused and summarised on a need to know basis where relevant
  • Decision making based on overall business requirements and best practice. Able to work to tight timescales and under pressure, whilst maintain a calm, prioritised and structured approach to all tasks / issues
  • A fluent PC user, able to gather, collate, interpret and report Quality-related data
